Holly & James’ Spring Wedding Photography at St Anne’s Cathedral, The Mansion & The Met Hotel Leeds
Natural, documentary wedding photography full of real moments, captured across Leeds city centre.
Holly & James’ wedding day unfolded in the heart of Leeds, beginning with a beautiful ceremony at St Anne’s Cathedral beneath its grand stone arches and soft spring light. The morning felt calm and full of anticipation, with guests gathering in the city centre as the story of the day began to unfold.
From confetti in the streets outside the cathedral, to relaxed portraits in the sunshine and a vintage wedding car journey across the city, the day moved naturally through some of Leeds’ most recognisable locations. We continued on to The Mansion for portraits in the grounds, before heading back into the city for the wedding breakfast and evening reception at The Met Hotel.
It was a day shaped by movement, connection, and atmosphere — a celebration full of candid moments, laughter, and emotion, told naturally as it happened across Leeds by a documentary wedding photographer.
Spring Sunshine Outside St Anne’s Cathedral in Leeds City Centre
Holly & James’ wedding began on a warm early May morning outside St Anne’s Cathedral in the centre of Leeds. The city was already busy, but around the cathedral everything felt calm and relaxed as guests slowly started to arrive in the sunshine.
James arrived first with his dad, and we crossed the road for a few candid photographs with the cathedral rising behind them. It’s one of those Leeds landmarks that always feels impressive in photographs, especially with the spring light catching the stone and the streets full of movement around it.
As more guests gathered outside, we returned to the same spot as family and friends greeted one another on the steps. It felt like a real mix of generations — from very young guests to grandparents and older relatives — all arriving together in the bright May sunshine, bringing so much warmth and anticipation to the morning.
Then, almost suddenly, Holly arrived in a vintage wedding car, drawing smiles from everyone waiting outside. With the roof folded down, it made quite an entrance through the busy Leeds streets. James was gently ushered inside before seeing her arrive, while Holly stepped out with her dad to hugs from the bridesmaids and a few quick photographs beside the car before the ceremony began.
A Ceremony Filled with Light Inside St Anne’s Cathedral
Inside St Anne’s Cathedral, guests were already gathered with James waiting at the front as the ceremony began. Bridesmaids made their way down the aisle first, followed by Holly arriving with her dad. The cathedral felt beautifully still in that moment — everyone quietly watching as the procession moved through the space.
St Anne’s is such an incredible setting for a ceremony. Its scale, soft light, and detailed interior create a real sense of atmosphere without ever overwhelming the people in it. Being able to move quietly around the edges of the cathedral meant I could tell the story naturally as it unfolded — from wide frames showing the beauty of the space to closer moments filled with expression and emotion.
After the ceremony, everyone made their way into the vestry for the signing of the register. Bridesmaids and groomsmen gathered around to help with Holly’s dress while the room filled with those small in-between moments — busy, calm, happy, and full of anticipation. There was plenty of laughter, but also quieter, emotional moments as Holly & James signed together.
Soon after, the newlyweds stepped back out of St Anne’s hand in hand, James helping with Holly’s dress as they made their way through the cathedral doors and back into the spring sunshine in Leeds city centre. The light outside was beautiful — bright, warm, and the perfect welcome into the next part of the day.
Confetti, Portraits and Spring Sunshine in the Streets of Leeds
After the ceremony, Holly & James stepped out of St Anne’s Cathedral into beautiful May sunshine in the centre of Leeds. Family and friends were waiting outside with hugs, congratulations, and a joyful confetti throw on the cathedral steps as the celebrations continued into the afternoon.
We spent some time outside in the streets around St Anne’s, making the most of the spring sunshine for portraits, congratulations, and a few relaxed moments together. Holly & James greeted guests while the atmosphere outside the cathedral felt full of warmth and excitement, before we moved into a few group photographs beside the vintage wedding car and in front of St Anne’s Cathedral.
Before leaving, we stepped back inside for a few quiet portraits together within the cathedral. After the movement outside, the calm of St Anne’s felt especially beautiful. Its soft light, scale, and architecture created the perfect setting for a few natural photographs of Holly & James together inside one of Leeds’ grandest venues.
Then it was time to continue across the city. Holly & James and the bridesmaids climbed into the vintage wedding car with the roof folded down and set off through Leeds in the sunshine on their way to The Mansion for portraits and the next part of the celebration.
Portraits by The Mansion and the Journey Back into Leeds
Holly & James arrived at The Mansion for portraits in the grounds, with the spring sunshine still lighting everything beautifully. We began with a few relaxed group photographs before wandering through the gardens together, making the most of the open space and the calm atmosphere around the venue.
One of those lovely unexpected moments happened as we were photographing nearby — with the park train passing in the background at just the right time. A lucky frame that felt full of character and perfectly part of the day. From there we made our way down towards the water, where the still reflections, fountains, and tree-lined backdrop created a beautiful setting for a few quiet portraits together.
We also spent some time with Holly and her bridesmaids, capturing a few fun photographs together in the sunshine before the pace of the day shifted once again. It felt relaxed and joyful — everyone enjoying the moment before heading back into the city.
Then everyone climbed back into the wedding car for the journey to The Met Hotel. Champagne was poured, laughter filled the car, and there were kisses and smiles all round — that lovely moment in the day when everything settles and you can feel the celebrations really beginning. With the ceremony behind them and the evening ahead, Holly & James made their way back into Leeds for the wedding breakfast and reception at The Met Hotel.
Arrival at The Met Hotel for the Wedding Breakfast in Leeds
Back in Leeds city centre, Holly & James arrived at The Met Hotel — affectionately known to many simply as The Met Leeds — with the afternoon sunshine still pouring across the front of the building. Before heading inside, we paused for a few photographs together outside with the vintage wedding car parked in front and The Met rising behind them in the sunlight.
It felt like a lovely pause between parts of the day — the ceremony and portraits behind them, with the evening celebrations just beginning. Guests were arriving inside while Holly & James had a few moments together before joining everyone for the wedding breakfast.
Once inside, we stepped into the wedding breakfast room for a few photographs before guests were seated. The space looked incredible, filled with soft blue light and framed by arched ceilings, columns, and beautiful architectural details all around. The Met always surprises me a little in that way — from the outside it feels like a classic city-centre hotel, but once inside the rooms open up unexpectedly, full of character and much larger than you imagine.
With everything set and ready, it felt like the perfect setting to begin the next part of Holly & James’ celebrations — welcoming everyone in for the wedding breakfast before the evening reception began in the heart of Leeds.
Wedding Breakfast Details, Speeches and Celebration at The Met Leeds
Inside the wedding breakfast room at The Met Hotel Leeds, everything had been beautifully styled for Holly & James’ reception. A four-tier wedding cake with pale blue icing — softly influenced by the room’s lighting — stood proudly as the centrepiece, finished with elegant gold detailing. Around the base, a circle of matching cupcakes completed the display, sitting alongside mirrored table settings and a carefully arranged seating plan framed in ornate detail.
As guests arrived and took in the room, there was a real sense of excitement building. Holly & James entered to warm congratulations, their faces showing that quiet mix of happiness and relief that comes once the ceremony is behind you and the celebration can truly begin. It was a lovely moment as they made their way to their seats surrounded by family and friends.
I spent some time quietly photographing the atmosphere around the tables as conversations started, laughter filled the room, and guests settled in before the meal was served. Once everyone was seated, the focus naturally shifted to the speeches, with moments of laughter, emotion, and connection shared throughout the room.
Gifts and flowers were exchanged, and each speech landed perfectly — from heartfelt words to lighter moments that had everyone smiling. Even Holly stood to share a few words herself, adding a personal touch to the evening, followed by a gentle sense of humour after a slightly embarrassed but very entertaining best man’s speech.
Evening Reception, Cake Cutting and First Dance at The Met Leeds
As the evening reception began at The Met Hotel Leeds, the atmosphere shifted as some guests made their way home while others arrived to join the celebrations. Holly & James took time together at the entrance, warmly welcoming and thanking everyone as the evening continued to build.
Around the room, the pace became more relaxed and social. Holly spent time with friends for a few photographs and conversations, while James greeted and chatted with older family members, making sure everyone felt included in the celebrations as the evening unfolded.
As the light dropped, the atmosphere moved into a softer, more intimate feeling. Under the low evening light, Holly & James cut the top tier of their wedding cake together, sharing a quiet moment before enjoying a piece as part of the celebration.
Soon after came the first dance — a moment filled with emotion, connection, and a real sense of everything coming together. Surrounded by their guests, Holly & James shared their first dance as a married couple, bringing a beautiful close to their wedding day in Leeds.
Closing Thoughts
Holly & James’ wedding was a beautifully relaxed journey through Leeds city centre, moving from the quiet anticipation of St Anne’s Cathedral, to confetti-filled streets in the May sunshine, and on to the calm, open spaces of The Mansion before finishing with a warm and atmospheric evening at The Met Hotel.
It was a day that flowed naturally from start to finish — full of movement, connection, and those small in-between moments that often tell the truest story of a wedding. From the energy outside the cathedral to the stillness inside St Anne’s, and the laughter shared on the journey across the city, everything felt effortless and real.
Holly & James were a joy to photograph. Their calm presence and easy connection with family and friends made the day feel relaxed, personal, and full of warmth from beginning to end.
As a Leeds-based wedding photographer, it’s always a privilege to document weddings that move so fluidly through the city I know so well — and this celebration across Leeds will stay with me for a long time.
